Abstract

The descriptions and pictures of egg capsules and syncapsules of 13 species of freshwater Pectinibranchia belonging to the families of Neritidae, Lithoglyphidae, Valvatidae, Bithyniidae, and Viviparidae, which are most common in the European part of Russia, are given. The data on the morphology of egg masses of Bithynia producta, B. decipiens, Cincinna macrostoma, C. ambigua and of egg capsules of Lithoglyphus naticoides, Viviparus ater, and Contectiana listeri are given in detail for the first time. It is shown that the variability of the morphological features of egg capsules and syncapsules cannot be used for the species identification of Cincinna, Bithynia, Viviparus, and Contectiana.
