Abstract

A very fast progress of modern technology discourages people from doing sport. The lack of physical activities and bad habits of nutrition result in really serious consequences, such as civilisation diseases, mainly obesity. This progress of the civilisation is reducing natural everyday activities. We use modern devices, such as cars, elevators and moving stairs, which seemingly make our life easy but, in fact, limit our level of physical fitness. The aim of the research was to define the level of the physical activity and to find out the level of fat tissue among the students of Poznan University of Life Science. The research was carried out in 2013/2014 among the students who attended obligatory sport classes. The Tanita Body Composition Analyzer was applied to carry out the calculations such as: body mass, fat tissue (in per cent), muscles mass, body mass index (BMI) and the metabolic age of the examined students. The level of their physical activity was defined with a questionnaire. The students not only gave the information about their physical activity but they answered the questions concerning the time spent on studying, using the Internet and watching TV, as well. The crucial task was to get the answer if the students would like to take part in obligatory sport classes during the next years of study.
