Abstract

Abstract The molecular structure of the title compound has been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The molecule consists of an alkoxo-oxygen bridged dimeric unit, [Cu2{(CH3)2 N(CH2)3 NH(CH2)2O}2 (CH3OH)2]2+, and two perchlorate anions as counter ions. The coordination geometry of each copper ion is a five coordinated tetragonal pyramid, of which the apical site is occupied by the oxygen atom of methanol. The magnetic moment of the compound is remarkably higher than that expected from Cu[sbnd]O[sbnd]Cu angle. This is explained in terms of the effect of axial coordination.
