Abstract

Molecular hydrogen is a preferred candidate for the investigation of excitation and decay of molecular systems in an intense light field (Zavriyev et al., 1990; Yang et al., 1991; Rottke et al., 1996; Shao et al., 1996; Walsh et al., 1997; Ludwig et al., 1997). In many respects H2 behaves similar to more complex diatomics. Compared to these molecules the only two electrons which are involved in the interaction of light with H2 simplify a theoretical approach and therefore a detailed understanding of the influence of light on molecular decay processes.
