Abstract

Compared to the traditional AC-DC-AC power converter, the matrix converter (MC), as a kind of universal power transformation device, can easily achieve n phase to m phase transformation. The matrix converter can generate controllable sinusoidal output voltage and input current, provide unit input power factor, have no intermediate storage link and energy can be bi-directional transferred with fast dynamic response, etc. Three-level matrix converter can achieve higher output voltage, higher capacity output, improved output voltage waveform quality, smoothed system harmonics. During the matrix converter modulation process, there exists a problem of the common mode voltage (CMV). Common mode voltage will cause motor bearing damage, reduce the service life of the motor, and form the electromagnetic interference. Aiming at reducing the CMV on three-level matrix converter, the contribution of this article is determining an improved space vector modulation with minimized CMV on the proposed three-level matrix converter.
