Abstract

Based on the results of and experience gathered during several national and international training and teaching projects, the paper proposes a new style of learning in the upcoming information age and addresses an open framework for Internet-based learning and training using WWW technology. After the introduction of the virtual learning and training environment as the modern CBT infrastructure, the courseware concepts based on the modularity with separation of the course framework from the course contents and with the separation of the course material from the course material description are discussed. The concept virtual references is introduced to support the late binding of courseware components. User adaptation is supported by using special exploration and examination components. In order to realize the concepts, a system architecture of an Internet-based CBT system Modular Training System (MTS) and its functionality including courseware production, courseware presentation and administration are presented.
