Abstract

The aim of this paper is to identify the basic components of the model of intellectualization of modern library and information science education (LIS education) as a basis for updating the content of library science educational programmes, the conditions for their image prestige and competitiveness in the market of educational services.Research methodology. The author uses the method of modeling and a system approach to examine the basic components of the content of LIS specialists training. They are as follows: technical and technological, project and analytical, research and innovation, communication, axiological (moral and ethical), psychological and educational, organizational and managerial ones.Results. It is proved that the main guideline of cognitive modernization of higher LIS education in Ukraine is intellectualization of all key components of its content, namely technical and technological, project and analytical, research and innovation, communication, axiological (moral and ethical), psychological and educational, organizational and managerial ones. The scale of information support and socio-cultural missions of modern libraries puts before the higher LIS education the issue of fundamentalizing the content core of professional academic disciplines, updating their educational and methodological support, implementing a wide range of optional subjects, innovative forms and methods of training contributing to the high level of general and professional competences of the applicants, their competitiveness and adaptability to the labor market conditions in a dynamic and global digital space.Novelty. The paper is the first attempt for studying the essence of institutional and cognitive modernization of the content of higher library education under the conditions of implementing the state educational standards of the new generation, which determines the system of general and professional competences and learning outcomes orienting higher education institutions to the training of library specialists able to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems not only in standard production situations, but also in those characterized by the complexity and uncertainty of the conditions.The practical significance. The conceptual model of intellectualization of the content of higher LIS education proposed by the author will help to accelerate its modernization as a guarantee of training a great number of highly-skilled library professionals. They are an important factor in digitization of all areas of work of libraries, their successful integration into the global communication space, improving the quality of information service of users.
