Abstract
This article draws on material from my study of the evangelization of some nomadic communities in northern Kenya (Tablino 2004). It traces how the initial Consolata Missions (to which I now belong) were established in the region in 1963 shortly before the independence of Kenya, describes the work that continued into the postcolonial period, and profiles some of the missionaries who have contributed to the foundation of the Catholic Church in northern Kenya over the last fifty years.
