Abstract
In “Validation of an indirect linkage algorithm to combine registry data with Medicare claims,”1 Mao et al describe the validation of methodology to link Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) registry data to Medicare claims, which might bring the reader to ask the question: “Why go to all this trouble?” Although the authors supply the answer in the discussion, I would like to re-emphasize the point. Claims linkage with registry data facilitates long-term follow-up on registry patients, for example, VQI.
