Abstract

Following the recent discovery (by A.R.) of the early stages of Parantica pumila (Boisduval), the biology of this little-known species is reviewed. Subspeciation in Vanuatu, when related to the racial distribution of other danaine butterflies, emphasizes the important position of the island of Eromanga. A new subspecies is described and a new synonym established.
