Abstract

Given the geopolitical implications of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the conflict has periodically attracted the attention of members of the international community interested in attempting to resolve the longstanding struggle. In contrast to its predecessor, the Trump administration has not only managed to violate international law and disengage from international organisations and agreements, but also break with previous US policies and with the international community’s common position concerning the peace process. Against this backdrop, this chapter examines how American policies affect the European Union and China’s involvement in the peace process. In so doing, the chapter follows the same line of questions addressed in this edited volume, specifically, how have the European Union and China responded to the shift in US foreign policy? How have they positioned themselves vis-à-vis the US? And are they in a suitable position to present alternatives to the US role and policies in the context of the peace process?
