Abstract

The microwave spectrum of selenophene, C 4H 4Se, has been recordedbetween 8000 and 26. 500 MHz. The rotational constants that predict the C 4H 4 80Se spectrum are: A = 7598.69, B = 3383.45, C = 2340.05 MHz; and those for the C 4H 4 78Se spectrum are A = 7598.58, B = 3411.94, C = 2353.67 MHz. Stark shift measurements give a dipole moment of 0.398 ± 0.010D along theaxis of least moment of inertia. An approximate structure was obtained from the principal moments of inertia, using some internuclear distances from thiophene. The structure was found to be planar with parameters: rS eC (2)(z) = 1.863 Å, C ( 5 ) SeC ^ ( 2 ) = 87.72 ° .
