Abstract

The microwave spectra of benzothiet-2-one and its 34S isotopic species generated by pyrolysis of 2-mercaptobenzoic acid have been observed in the frequency range from 7.5 to 40.0 GHz. The rotational constants (MHz) have been determined as A = 2842.79 (3), B = 1269.806(3), and C = 877.812(3) for 32S species and A = 2798.88(6), B = 1255.161(3), and C = 866.615(3) for 34S species in the ground vibrational state. The inertial defects for 32S and 34S species were found to be −0.047(5) and −0.042(7) u Å 2, respectively. Benzothiet-2-one is a planar molecule and its lifetime is about 1 min in the waveguide cell.
