Abstract

Microwave pyrolysis of various biomass types has been reviewed. A range of biomass types has been subjected to microwave pyrolysis under various conditions, with char, bio‐oil, and a range of gases (predominantly CO2, CO, CH4 and H2) being produced. Studies aimed at individual biomass components, such as cellulose and hemicellulose, are included to develop a mechanistic understanding of the processes involved.
