view Abstract Citations (12) References (15) Co-Reads Similar Papers Volume Content Graphics Metrics Export Citation NASA/ADS The Microwave Phase Effect of Mercury Morrison, David ; Sagan, Carl Abstract Integrated-disk microwave brightness temperatures and equatorial infrared brightness temperatures of Mercury have been computed for various wavelengths from a numerical solution of the combined one-dimensional heat conduction equation for contact conduction and the equation of radiative transfer. With lunar properties for the Mercurian subsurface, the well-determined 2-cm phase curve is reproduced. Brightness temperatures for future apparitions are predicted; they depend strongly on heliocentric longitude, as well as on phase angle.
