Abstract

The prepared Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ( x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4) ceramics are sintered at 1200–1300 °C, the needed sintering temperatures of Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ceramics slightly increased with the increase of SnO 2 content. The sintering characteristics of Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ceramics are developed by the X-ray diffraction patterns and SEM observations to find the influence of sintering temperatures and SnO 2 content on the crystal structure and the grain growth. The lattice constants of Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ceramics increase with the increase of sintering temperatures. As the SnO 2 content increases, the morphologies of Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ceramics are changed from bar-typed grains to disk-typed grains and the saturated bulk densities of Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ceramics slightly increase; however, the dielectric constant ( ɛ r) slightly decrease. The influence SnO 2 content and sintering temperatures on the quality values ( Q × f) and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency ( τ f values) of Ba(Ti 4− x Sn x )O 9 ceramics at microwave frequency are well developed in this study.
