Abstract

The microstructures of a number of fossil teeth have been examined by optical and electron microscopy and with the electron probe. Well preserved specimens show the same microstructural details as fresh teeth with no evidence of changes in their crystallites of apatite even after millions of years. Objects which appear to be fossil bacteria are described from one of the teeth.
