Abstract

The sharp diffuseness of the 3He phenomenological spin-orbit potential shows the inadequacies of current microscopic formulations of the optical potential. Inclusion of the effects of incomplete spin saturation of the nucleon-nucleon interaction to some extent overcomes this difficulty. The form of the wavefunction of the incident particle to be used in folding potentials is likely to be affected by its polarisability.
