Abstract

The origins of the microdomain concept in transition metal oxide chemistry and theories of dual phases in transition metal alloy metallurgy are reviewed. Thermal (kinetic and dynamic) evidence for microdomain and dual phase formation in α-AgI and αAg 2S are discussed. These and related materials are promising candidates for electron diffraction studies to identify microdomain superstructures.
