Abstract

Background: The Laurén classification of gastric adenocarcinoma was introduced in 1965 and is still widely used in clinical care. The classification involves three histological subtypes, the intestinal type, the diffuse type and a combination of the two, the mixed type. The subtypes differ in epidemiology, tumour biology and patients’ survival. Studies on the metastatic pattern of gastric adenocarcinoma by histological subtype according to Laurén are missing.
