Abstract

The zero-field splittings and lifetimes of the photoexcited triplet states in K 2Cr 2O 7 and YVO 4 crystals have been determined by EPR experiments in zero field. The splittings for K 2Cr 2O 7 agree with the spin Hamiltonian used previously for describing EPR experiments in a magnetic field. Those for YVO 4 indicate a lowering of symmetry of the VO 4 3− ion on excitation.
