Abstract

The transfer of hydrogen between paired reactors in a metal hydride heat pump is studied numerically utilizing a lumped-parameter model. Good agreement is obtained with experimental results for both pairs of hydrides used here. It is shown that thermal effects provide the dominant resistance to the process in this study. Both terms in the heat transfer rate constant are important: temperature efficiency, i.e. conduction of heat in a hydride bed, and capacity rate of the heat transfer fluids.
