Abstract

1. 1. The incorporation of radioactivity from [ 14C] glucose, [2− 14C] acetate and [1 : 4− 14C 2] succinate into the soluble metabolic intermediates of homogenates of digestive glands from Melanerita melanotragus and Austrocochlea obtusa, prepared in a variety of media, has been studied. 2. 2. The preparations did not utilize labelled glucose in appreciable quantities. 3. 3. Radiocarbon from labelled succinate and acetate was incorporated into substances known to be involved in tricarboxylic acid cycle, transamination and carboxylation reactions. 4. 4. Some implications of these results are discussed.
