Abstract

The following work advocates for the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities into the observance of the Eucharist. It utilizes Paul’s comments in 1 Cor 11:17–34 as a basis to suggest that the Lord’s Supper is practiced to a community’s detriment if some believers are marginalized. The author goes on to explore disability theology, and how a proper understanding of disabilities should lead to a communal experience of the Eucharist. It is concluded with a final exhortation for churches and their leaders to begin conversations centering around practical inclusion of persons with developmental disabilities.
