Abstract
SUMMARY New stratigraphic names are proposed for four of the clastic formations within the Mercia Mudstone Group. Detailed lithological correlation within the basin and beyond is made on the basis of degree of lamination and rock colour. A wealth of sedimentary structures provides clues to the likely genesis of the clastic deposits and the major beds of halite.
