Abstract

The objective of this article is to identify the determinants, nature and implications of historical policy as a foreign policy tool of the Russian Federation. Furthermore, it is to understand the role of historical propaganda as an instrument of Russia's foreign policy towards Poland and to identify its impact on bilateral relations. According to the adopted research hypothesis, Russia uses historical events to realise its interests towards Poland, which boils down to controlling the historical narrative on a global scale, affirming the role of the superpower as the victor of World War II and shaping national identity. The article uses the method of content analysis and political discourse analysis to understand and show how historical propaganda is created, disseminated and how it affects Polish-Russian relations. The study was based on an analysis of source materials, including media messages, official statements by politicians and academic publications.
