The mediating effects of parenting stress on the relationship between parent’s psychological variables, children’s problem behavior, and executive function

Abstract

연구목적: 본 연구는 부모의 심리적 변인과 아동의 문제행동 및 집행기능의 관계에서 어머니 양육스트레스의 매개효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 방법: 육아정책연구소의 한국아동패널 8차년도 데이터를 사용하여 84개월∼92개월 아동 1,556명과 그의 부모를 대상으로 하였다. 자료분석은 기술통계치 외의 t-test, Pearson의 상관관계 분석 및 매개 회귀분석, Sobel-test를 실시하였다. 결과: 연구결과 첫째, 아버지와 어머니의 심리적 변인 중 우울에서 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 부모의 심리적 변인과 아동의 문제행동 및 집행기능 곤란의 상관관계 분석 결과 부모 모두 주관적 행복감은 부적상관이, 우울과 양육스트레스는 정적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 어머니의 우울 및 부부갈등과 아동의 문제행동 사이에서 어머니의 양육스트레스는 부분매개 및 완전매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 어머니의 주관적 행복감, 우울, 부부갈등과 아동의 집행기능 사이에서 어머니의 양육스트레스는 모두 완전 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 이상의 결과를 기초로 부모의 심리적 긍정성을 회복하고 아동의 문제행동과 집행기능의 조기개입 및 예방을 위한 방향에 대해 논의하였다.Objectives: This study aims to verify the mediating effects of mother’s parenting stress in the relationship between parent’s psychological variables, children’s problem behavior, and executive function. Methods: 1,556 children from 84～92 months of age and their parents using 8th year data of Panel Study on Korean Children at the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education were analyzed. Results: First, a significant difference was discovered in depression among the psychological variables of fathers and mothers. Second, based on the correlation analysis of parent’s psychological variables, children’s problem behavior, and executive function difficulty, both parents had a negative correlation in subjective happiness, and a positive correlation in depression and parenting stress. Third, mother’s parenting stress had partial and full mediating effects in the relationship between mother’s depression, marital conflicts, and children’s problem behavior. Fourth, mother’s parenting stress had mediating effects in the relationship between mother’s subjective happiness, depression and marital conflicts, and children’s executive function. Conclusions: This study discusses a direction for the recovery of parent’s psychological positivity, as well as early intervention and prevention for children’s problem behavior and executive function.
