Abstract
Significantly more 18F was taken up in 5 min by enamel from labelled solutions of APF than from labelled neutral sodium fluoride solutions with a similar fluoride content (1.2 per cent). The mechanism of uptake of 18F from labelled neutral sodium fluoride solutions was diffusion-controlled throughout 100 min, whereas with labelled APF solutions it was diffusion-controlled only after a very rapid uptake of 18F during the first 4 min. Treatment of enamel with a solution of aluminium nitrate significantly enhanced the subsequent uptake of 18F by enamel from labelled solutions of APF without altering the mechanism of uptake.
