Abstract
It has been shown that the transfer of a non-interacting np pair dominates in backward elastic p 3He scattering at initial energies of 0.9–1.7 GeV, whereas the deuteron exchange contribution is rather small. The component A ̂ { NN( 1 S 0) + N} of the wave function of 3He is very significant for the dominating process. Numerical calculations of the cross section taking into account Glauber rescatterings are in qualitative agreement with the experimental data.
