Abstract

1. The effect of the solvent on the photolysis quantum yield of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives was studied. A linear correlation was established between the function of the quantum yield log[(1−ϕ)/ϕ] and the position of thelaπ*-type long-wavelength band. The major effect on the quantum yield is related to the dielectric properties of the medium and the formation of O...H hydrogen bonds. 2. The temperature effect on the photolysis quantum yield of 2-morpholino-1,4-naphthoquinone was studied and the effective activation energy of this reaction was determined. 3. The photolysis of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives was studied at 77°K and the formation of precursors of the product of photolysis at room temperature was established. 4. A mechanism was proposed for the transformation of the products of the photolysis at 77°K to the product of the photolysis at ∼ 20°C.
