Abstract

IR spectroscopic and volumetric study under reaction conditions of the mechanism of photocatalytic hydrogen production from gaseous methanol and water revealed that CO 2 and H 2 were produced by reaction between adsorbed CH 3O(ad) and H 2O. Another reaction path for H 2 production, CH 3 OH(ad) → H 2 + HCHO, was suggested which is dominant in the absence of water.
