Abstract

As a result of X-ray cinematographic and gross anatomical studies, we concluded that a “sphincter” or similar structure must exist at the beginning of the ductus venosus, and that this structure must be concerned with the functional closure of the fœtal channel in question. Our conclusion is in course of verification by two histologists, and this paper is published as a common introduction to their subsequent publications on the subject.
