Abstract

The incubation of isolated medullary granules from cattle causes a spontaneous release of catecholamines along with equivalent amounts of ATP. The sympathomimetic amines : tyramine, phenylethylamine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and ephedrine enhance the spontaneous release of catecholamines, but not that of ATP. The amount of released catecholamines under the influence of tyramine is almost quantitatively replaced by an uptake of tyramine.
