Abstract

The influence of laser radiation on the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite materials was carried out. The results showed that laser treatment of CFRP leads to a decrease of less than 7% of the strength properties of the materials. A comparative analysis of the results of a tensile test of CFRP sliced by laser radiation and conventional mechanical cutting was performed. The results of XRD and SEM analysis showed that after laser treatment on the surface of the CFRP a layer of modified material structurally similar to graphite appears. During the heating of epoxy resin an effect of ‘self-treatment’ of cracks and voids could be observed.
