Abstract

The work concentrates upon two aspects of the heterogeneous deformation: a) the extent of slip (shear) across several grains during shear banding — the physical nature of this phenomenon and the role of mechanical instability of the metal substructure in formation of micro shear bands and b) formation of pseudo periodic transgranular (fiber-like composite) arrangement of martensite plates during stress induced transformation of the matrix having mechanically unstable dislocation substructure.
