Abstract

LTs have been implicated to play a role in a wide variety of inflammatory diseases. The evidence for LT involvement usually begins with their being able to reproduce many of the functional and histological features of the disease. Further involvement of LTs is indicated by increased levels of LTs found in biologic fluids either at the site of origin or at the site of elimination from the body (urine). The potential involvement of LTs in asthma, psoriasis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus, and Crohn’s disease has been assisted by measurement of LTs in biologic fluids. It is likely that other diseases will also be detected that involve elevated LT synthesis by the determination of levels of LT metabolites in biological fluids.
