Abstract

The method uses the activation of indium by thermal neutrons resulting from the moderation of fast neutrons in a paraffin-wax sphere shielded by cadmium foil. The absolute response of this detector is given as a function of the average neutron energy. A simple method is used to correct for the presence of low-energy scattered neutrons. The technique is tested in practice for measurement of the neutron flux density produced by 18-MeV and 26-MeV deuterons incident on a thick beryllium target.
