Abstract

This article discusses the psychosocial task theory of Erikson and Frenkel-Brunswik in conjunction with Robert Butler's interpretation of life review as normative processes in later life. It then explores the role that life review may play in the lives of older people who pursue educational activities. Several examples are given of the ways in which life review motivates and enriches the learning activities for older people. The second half of the article discusses strategies for developing reminiscence and life review in classroom settings for older learners. This is meant to be useful to educators, facilitators and geriatric recreation therapists.
