Abstract

In Chapter 2 of his bZook Making, T. Ingold relates some experiments he carried out along with students of his 4 As course. These experiments lead to reconsider objects as solidified materials, and to reconsider “making” as a process of growth that eludes the hylomorphic model. The materials themselves are active potentials, and the making process consists in joining our forces with theirs. For this reason, alchemy may best describe the riddle of materials.
