Abstract
Recent results concerning the determination of the masses of eleven black hole candidates in X-ray binary systems are summarized. It is very significant that there are no pulsars or X-ray bursters of the first kind among the eleven known massive (mx > 3M⊙) X-ray sources in close binary systems.
