Abstract

AbstractThe mass spectra of several biogenetically and chemically inter‐related coumarins (I to XVII) have been examined, and fragmentation pathways proposed on the basis of metastable evidence and deuterium labelling studies. The particular modification of the isoprenoid sidechain present in each compound directs fragmentation and gives rise to characteristic mass spectral cleavage patterns which may be useful for structural elucidation.
