Abstract

The mass dependence of the l = 5 proton spin-orbit splitting is essentially due to the tensor component of the effective interaction. It is predicted that this mass dependence changes sign in the odd mass Au and T1 isotopes. The tendency of spin unsaturated shells to invert spin-orbit splittings is also caused by the effective tensor interaction.
