Abstract

The Spanish general election of March 2000 gave the Partido Popular (PP) its second consecutive election victory and its first absolute majority of parliamentary seats. Since Spain's return to democracy in 1977, this is the first time that a right-wing party has won such a large majority of seats. A new political dynamic may be arising in Spanish politics as a consequence of significant changes in electoral behaviour.
