Dear Doctor: —Yours of the 12th came to hand yesterday, and in reply will state that I came upon the device referred to by accident, thought the idea original, and published it for the purpose of drawing attention to the subject. I am glad to know that I have been preceded in this field by you, and that you have called my attention to the fact. Although engaged in general practice, I make no attempt to keep up with obstetrical literature—being especially interested in other lines—and this accounts for my ignorance of the existence of your paper. I have, however, read most of the modern obstetrical works, and have a large number of volumes of journals issued during the past forty years, all thoroughly indexed, and in but one of these can I find mention of the genu-pectoral position in the rectification of the
