Abstract
This paper describes a methodology for the management of development projects. Known as the Project Development Cycle, this technique can be used to monitor the progress of technical endeavours of any magnitude. The development cycle provides management with a well–defined tool to assess design integrity, technical progress, product competitiveness and ease of manufacturing. The process establishes five phases common to all development projects. It defines the roles of each of the major operatives in a classical vertically–integrated organization. It sets up detailed criteria, prerequisite to moving projects from phase to phase, and suggests an appropriate framework for measuring project status. A detailed example from the semiconductor industry is provided to illustrate the value and flexibility of this method of technology management.
