Abstract

Dr. Brugada: We know that low potassium is associated with the side effects of sotalol and other antiarrhythmic agents as well. Potassium probably potentiates the effect on phase-zero conduction potential and also repolarization. Potassium alone prolongs repolarization and sotalol prolongs it further. However, I don't know if increasing potassium might have some additional effects. What is really important is the potassium gradient at the drug receptor site and that we cannot study.
