Abstract

This article discusses the diagnosis and treatment options for people suffering from trigeminal neuralgia and the treatment options available to prevent future acute exacerbations of pain. A case study is included to highlight the needs of a patient suffering from the condition. Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition characterized by paroxysms of facial pain, which may be initiated by touch, heat/cold, or eating. Pain occurs in the areas supplied by the trigeminal nerve such as the cheeks, jaw, teeth and gums.
