Abstract
Objective To identify and characterize the 50 most cited Chinese articles in surgical flap,to recognize Chinese influential studies in flap surgery and to recommend the classic articles to young doctors in the field of flap surgery.Methods Using the keyword flap,Chinese Medical Citation Index was conducted to identify the articles in flap surgery.The results were ranked by the number of citations.The 50 most cited articles were included,and unrelated articles,duplicated publications,nursing papers and meeting repots were excluded.The title,number of citation,year of publication,journal source,province distribution,institution,first author and publication type were recorded and analyzed.Results The times of citations ranged from 327 to 42.The 50 most cited articles were published between 1994 and 2010.The years of 2000 and 2004 were the most productive years.All the top 50 articles were published in 9 journals.Chinese Journal of Microsurgery (20) was the journal with the largest number of the included articles,and followed by Chinese Journal of Hand Surgery (12) and Chinese Journal of Clinical Anatomy (6).The top cited articles originated in 15 provinces.Shanghai (11),Shandong (10) and Guangdong (8) were the three most contributed provinces.All the articles were written by the authors in 31 institutions.Nine institutions were responsible for more than 1 article.the top productive institutions were Huashan Hospital of Fudan University (7),No.89 Hospital of People's Liberation Army (4),the First Affilliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (3),Hainan General Hospital (3) and Fuzhou General Hospital of Nanjing Military Command (3).Eight authors were responsible for more than 1 article as the first-author.There were 40 articles in clinical studies and 10 articles in basic research.Conclusion The top-level professional journals,the dominant hospitals and clinical studies are the main characteristics of the most cited articles in flap surgery.The summary of the most cited articles is helpful for understanding the historical features of flap surgery in China and guild the future studies.These classic articles in the top cited list should be recommended to the young surgeons in flap surgery.
