Abstract

The magnetoresistance of CeNi 1− x Cu x system is presented in fields up to 9 T and temperatures down to 2 K. Different behaviors are observed for the Ni rich compositions (ferromagnetic for x⩾0.2) governed by 4f-conduction band hybridization effects, and the Cu rich compounds (antiferromagnetic for x⩾0.9) where Kondo effect is almost absent. The results are compared with the existing theories and discussed in terms of the modifications of RKKY magnetic interactions and Kondo effect when substituting Ni by Cu.
