Abstract

The magnetization reversal in uniaxial ferromagnets is treated within the framework of a coherent rotation model taking into account first- and second-order anisotropy constants K1 and K2 with either sign. This model gives some insight into the nucleation process of real ferromagnets. For the first time exact solutions are given for all ranges of the material parameters. For appropriate values of K1K2 the hysteresis loops resemble those observed on magnetic multilayers, as demonstrated for the system (Fe1−xCox/Pt)x.
